Josiah Hill III Clinic Awarded Portland Water Bureau Grant

Great news! The Josiah Hill III Clinic has been granted $60,000 by the Portland Water Bureau to provide free blood lead testing and lead hazard reduction information targeted to high risk populations during fiscal year 2011-2012. The City wishes to increase blood lead testing of young children and pregnant women as a strategy for preventing lead poisoning in our community. We are so excited to further our work in the Portland community to protect children from this environmental hazard.

BlueCross BlueShield Award

May 11, 2011

Sean Brennan, a Legislative Counsel and friend of Ha Nguyen, a JHC’s volunteer, walked 374 miles to take 1st place in the BlueCross BlueShield 2011 Legislative Walking Challenge. Impressed by the work of the Clinic, Sean designated the Clinic as his health related charity of choice. On May 5th, a $1,250 Award was presented to the Josiah Hill III Clinic in Salem. Senator Merkley Commends JHC

On March 11th, Board Chair Dr. William Lambert, Board Member Don Francis and Executive Director Charles A. McGee, II were received in audience by Senator Jeff Merkley at his downtown Portland office. In attendance was Johnell Bell, Field Representative to the Senator. During the hour long discussion, Senator Merkley was of informed of the history and activities of the Clinic, as well as environmental justice challenges that face low income families and communities of color. He was presented samples of outreach materials produced by the staff.

 

Senator Merkley, who serves on the congressional Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, Banking Housing & Urban Affairs, and the Environment & Public Works Committees, expressed his support and thanked the Clinic for the great work that benefits so many children and families.

Welcome Alison Sheldon!

JHC is pleased to welcome Alison Sheldon as our new Americorps Program Assistant. She has finished an internship with Global Visionaries where she became interested in working with local communities and youth on environmental sustainability and development. She is passionate about promoting the importance of education to youth and becoming an active leader in communities to make a change.  Alison recieved her degree in Latin American Studies and International Studies from the University of Washington. We’re excited to have her on board and think she’ll be a great fresh addition to our team!
