JHC Welcomes New Executive Director, Charles A. McGee, II!

JHC is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director, Charles A. McGee, II. 

By virtue of his life experience, Charles brings a unique perspective to the Josiah Hill III Clinic.  In 1991, Charles fled the Liberian civil crisis and sought political asylum in the United States.  With the help of the Grace Memorial Episcopalian Church in Portland, he was able to get a job and two years later, bring his wife and children from Liberia to the US.  Charles values education and earned a Bs.C. in Political Science at Cuttington University, Liberia.  He also holds a B.A. in Secondary Education and M.Ed. in Education Administration from Concordia University in Portland.  Charles also attended the Institute for Nonprofit Management at Portland State University where he was a Leadership Fellows graduate, and holds a Visual Assessment Certificate from HUD’s Office of Healthy Homes, and is a licensed nursing home administrator.

 

Over the past twenty years, Charles has tirelessly advocated for children, the elderly, disabled people and women. He has served as a social studies instructor, taught Environmental Education, and spearheaded the production of the video Brownfields in Our Backyard, produced by students of McCoy Public Charter School, where he became principal.  He has served as Director of Community Development of Oregon Outreach, Inc.  Charles worked as Policy Assistant to Mayor Tom Potter and collaborated in the creation of the Portland Commission on Disability.  Recently, he was Program Manager of the Healing Roots Center, where he was involved with conducting lead-based paint assessment.
